CommunitySferes/Columbia Heights – Your Local Sfere!

Our mission is to create a greater sense of community and improve public safety as residents get to know their neighbors. We aim to provide a public forum for neighbors to communicate with one another, their community leaders, and to share and organize community events. We hope to provide a trusted platform where neighbors work together to build stronger, safer and happier communities.

MPD – Click HERE to get to know the Metropolitan Police Department

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is the primary law enforcement agency for the District of Columbia. The MPD has over 4,000 sworn and civilian members serving the city, which is divided into seven Police Districts, each of which is further subdivided into seven or more Police Service Areas (PSAs).

Every resident lives in a Police Service Area (PSA), and every PSA has a team of police officers and officials assigned to it. Residents should get to know their PSA team members and learn how to work with them to fight crime and disorder in their neighborhoods. Each police district has between seven and nine PSAs. There are a total of 56 PSAs in the District of Columbia.

Each PSA is headed by a lieutenant who is overseen by a captain in charge of multiple PSAs. Information about the police leadership in your district is avaiable on the roster page for each police district. Individual maps of each PSA in the Third District are also available below.
